The bag, cap and the whistle
Ram, Bhim and Arjun were brothers. They were very poor. So when they grew up they decided to go out in the world and earn money. They walked together for a long distance and saw a mountain of silver. Ram said “Let us take some silver from this mountain and go home.” Bhim and Arjun laughed at him and told him, We should not be satisfied with this. We have to go further.” Ram did not agree to this and took as much silver as he could and returned home
Bhim and Arjun had to cross several mountains and forests. At last they reached a mountain which was made of gold. Bhim told Arjun, “ This is a mountain of gold. Let us take as much as we want and return home. We would live as wealthy people,” But Arjun said that he was not satisfied. So Bhim returned home with lot of Gold.
Arjun walked further. The forests he had to cross were very big and the mountains very tall. But he crossed them. After crossing many mountains and forests, he came to a very dark forest. He climbed on a tree to see whether there was any city near by. On the tree he saw a table cloth. He took the table cloth and climbed down. Then he thought that if only I had good food, I would not feel tired. Then a table appeared before him. His tablecloth spread on that table. Very good and tasty food appeared on the table. He ate as much as he could and started walking further with his tablecloth. In the next city, he saw a poor black smith. When Arjun met him, the black smith offered him two Chapathis. But Arjun told him, “but I can give you good and tasty food.” Then he took his tablecloth and wished for food for two people. All sort of nice food appeared on the table. The black smith ate everything and told Arjun, “If you give this table cloth to me, I will give you a magical bag.” Arjun wanted to test the magical bag. The black smith took the magical bag and tapped on it once. Ten very strong men with horses, bows and arrows appeared and asked the blacksmith, “master, what can we do to you?” Black smith replied, “At present nothing “and all those men vanished. Arjun gave the tablecloth to that black smith and took the bag from him. As soon as he walked a mile he took the bag and tapped it once. Ten very strong men with horses, bows and arrows appeared and asked the blacksmith, “master, what can we do to you?” Then Arjun told them, “Go back to the black smith’s house and bring my tablecloth. “. All of them rode immediately to the black smith’s house and easily brought back Arjun’s tablecloth
Arjun walked further. This time he came to the house of a poor mason. The Mason offered him one cup of rice. But Arjun took out his tablecloth and ordered for very good food. The mason was very happy and told Arjun,” You give me this table cloth and I will give you a magical cap”. Arjun wanted to test the magical cap. As soon as he put the magical cap and turned it twice, a huge army with horses and elephants came and asked him, “master, what should we do?” Arjun told them at present nothing. He gave the tablecloth to the mason and put on the cap and walked further. As soon as he walked one mile he tapped the bag once Ten very strong men with horses, bows and arrows appeared and asked the blacksmith, “master, what can we do to you?” He told them, “Go to the house of the mason and bring back my table cloth.” They immediately went there and brought back his tablecloth.
Arjun walked further. This time he came to the house of a woodcutter. The woodcutter offered him some cooked maize. But Arjun took out his tablecloth and ordered food for two people. The woodcutter ate lot of food and asked Arjun, “why don’t you give this table cloth to me? I will give you a magical whistle.” Arjun wanted to test the whistle. When he started playing it, furious storm blew from there and started destroying everything. Then Arjun stopped playing the whistle and gave his tablecloth to the woodcutter. But after walking a mile, he again tapped the bag. Ten very strong men with horses, bows and arrows appeared and asked the blacksmith, “master, what can we do to you?” Arjun told them, “My table cloth is with the wood cutter. Go and get it.” The ten men went immediately to the house of the woodcutter and got his tablecloth.
Arjun felt satisfied now and returned back to his village. He was still wearing dirty cloths and looked very poor. His brothers laughed at him and drove him out of their house. Arjun got very angry and tapped his bag three times. Thirty horseman came and asked, “Master, what should we do/” Arjun replied, “Go and teach my brothers a lesson. They went and started breaking the houses of Ram and Bhim. They both complained to the king. Then the king sent his army. Arjun then wore his cap and turned his hat twice. A very huge army came and defeated the king’s army. The king himself came and asked for the pardon of Arjun and took him to his palace. In the palace Arjun showed him the trick of his bag and cap. That day, the king’s men stole Arjun’s bag and cap, and drove him out of the palace. Arjun was furious. He started blowing his whistle. A huge storm came and all houses and palaces started falling down. The king came out and requested Arjun to stop. He also gave back Arjun’s bag and cap. Arjun then married the king’s daughter and became a king of his own country.
